Second Renju Computer World Championship Executive Committee

 

Hello Computer friends of Renju !

The championships we've been waiting for will be held in July-August,

1998.

 

WHY WE NEED THIS COMPETITION ?

History

During Mind Computers Olympiads by David Levi it was competitions

for Gomoku and Renju Computer programs.

In 1989 in London "Stonesystem" by N. Alexandrov , M. Trukhan and

A. Grigoriev was the winner of Renju match .

Then in 1990 in London "Stonesystem" won again.

In 1991 Moscow "Vertex" won friend match against Japanese program

of Mr. Matsuura 2:1

In 1991 in Maastricht (Netherlands) "Vertex" by A. Shaposhnikov and

A. Nosovsky was won.

After that First World Championship of Gomoku and Renju was held in

Moscow 7 participants from 5 countries took part in it.

"Vertex" by A. Shaposhnikov and A. Nosovsky won again.

In 1992 in London won "Neuron" by A.Golubev and A. Melnikov but "Vertex"

did not participate.

During all this years the programs from England, Netherlands, Finland,

Sweden, Russia, Latvia, Ukraine, Japan, Armenia took part in Renju

competition.

After that it was a break.

 

Now days

Now N. Alexandrov, A. Shaposhnikov are living in USA,

A. Grigoriev in England, M. Trukhan in Japan.

There are some programs which are in Internet or companyes are sale it.

I saw in Japan Renju program by Mr. Matsuura and Mr. Nisizono

by MYCOM company from Japan for Windows-95.

Last year in Japan I had seen also some program working in Apple computer.

It was shown me by Mr. Nara and Mr. Hasegawa.

There are "Renju for Windows" by A. Shaposhnikov and Go & Renju CD disk

by Games Club with also A. Shaposhnikovs program working in Windows-95.

There are also "StoneSystem" in Sweden and "Intelligent Strategy Games"

by Oxford Softworks, England

I had seen also some Gomoku programs like "WinFive" by A. Sidorenko

by Winning Strategies Corporation from USA.

And Gomoku Narabe by Steve Neeley.

I have also been informed by G. Holgersson about strong Swedish program

which had beet "Renju for Windows".

We also hope that Mr. Victor Allis with Gomoku "Victoria" program also can

modify it by present renju rules.

We hope that Latvia Team by G. Uzulis and G. Kaminskis will made their

program.

We also have a new program "Solver-95" for Windows-95 by Mr. A. Milevsky,

A. Nosovsky and S. Filippov.

In Internet there are some other Renju and Gomoku programs, I had met

Korea Gomoku program, may be other also have some interesting programs.

It seems to me that it is interesting to meet each other and play some

interesting games in next July-August here in Moscow.

Last years computers make big progress but we steel not so deep in

understanding equal positions.

 

COMPETITION

 

So, it will be two tournaments of 2-nd World Computer Championship in

Renju.

First is solving problems in Renju.

10 problems from Organizers and one from each participant will consist the

1-st Tournament in Solving problems.

Second Tournament - Real games between computer programs.

World Championship Renju rules

 

First Tournament - Solving problems

One hour for each position.

Computer have to suggest the way for sure win.

Victory must be shown before the end of the hour.

Anyone can try to protect any victory of computer.

 

Second Tournament

1. This tournament system is ROUND-ROBIN - system .

2. Time : 50 moves/120 minutes, and 10 moves/ 10 minutes .

NB 50 moves/ 120 minutes : Black must make 99 -th move , and White

must make 100-d move in time, then moves 119 and 120 are critical.

3. Opening Rules : Black Option and Reverse of White and Black Choice.

a. Black have to play first move to the center of the board.

b. Black made White move direct or indirect relativly first black move.

c. Black made their second black move ( N 3 in the game) on the place of

12 Renju Opennigs.

d. White can change colour and play this position as Black.

e. White make their second move (N 4 in the game)

f. Black have to suggested two variants of their third move (N 5 in the

game)

g. White chose one of Black moves, another suggested move delete from

the board.

4. The match consists of two games.

* Participants must inform organizer . The entry deadline is 1998 May 1.
