●概要

　満開製作所では、西暦2000年中の発売開始を目標として、X680x0互換
機を製作する計画（計画名「零式」）を立案中です。
　また、この零式計画のために、1999年中に先行的に試作機を製作し、
零式の礎とするための補助計画（計画名「九九式」）を企画しています。
　まだ未定の部分も多いのですが、今回はこれらの計画の骨子を公式に
発表します。

●コンセプト

        ○いたずらにスペックを追求しない

        　こういった計画では、「性能はどうなるのか」「＊＊を載せ
        てはどうか」といった、スペック偏重なことがらが第一の関心
        事になりがちです。しかし、それは手段を論じているだけに過
        ぎません。

        　そうではなく、シャープが撤退したいまとなっても熱心なユ
        ーザーが数多く活動をしつづけている X680x0 の現状を踏まえ
        た上で、我々はどのようなものを作っていくべきなのか、いま
        敢えて開発を行う意味と目的を考えました。

        　そのような意味で、スペックは副次的なものです。コンセプ
        トを実現し、さらにユーザーの皆さんに受け入れられるものを
        目標として策定されることになります。

        ○存在意義：「開発にあたって支障のないマシンを」

        　現在のパーソナルコンピューティング環境は、Mac といった
        存在もありますが、事実上 WINDOWS 一色です。そのような存
        在に張り合っても仕方ありません。

        　ところで、現在の WINDOWS は、道具としてみれば、堅牢で
        はないということを差し引いても、ソフトウェア資産の面で非
        常に優秀ではありますが、コンピューティングの勉強にはまっ
        たく向いていません。

        　では、X680x0 では支障がなかったかというと、ユーザーに
        対する情報が一貫していなかったと認めざるを得ない部分もあ
        ります。

        　そこで、開発にあたっての敷居が低いマシンを、重要な目標
        として掲げます。X680x0 は、我々にとって言わば「学校」の
        ような存在ですが、我々はさらにその路線をつきつめていき、
        それをひとつの「魅力」にまで高めていきます。

        　例を挙げるなら、「ゲームを作りやすいマシン」ということ
        になると思いますが、もちろんユーザーさん次第で「ゲーム」
        の部分は他の単語に置き替わっても良いでしょう。

        ○互換性は重視しない

        　100%の互換性を確保するのはあまりに莫大な労力が必要にな
        りますし、ソースがあれば新たにリコンパイルするなり手を加
        えるなりすれば、より大きなパフォーマンスを得られる可能性
        があります。だとすれば、完全な互換性というものがあまり重
        要とは考えられません。

        　また、新しい機能に対するブレーキ力ともなりかねません。
        新しいことを行うのに、古いことがしがらみになる事の愚かさ、
        苦しさについては、過去に反面教師が多数存在しています。

        　スプライトやグラフィックスについても、それらの機構をま
        るごと互換性を堅持しつつ実現することは、かなり手間と費用
        を要します。そこで、拡張性を残しつつ、従来の動作はエミュ
        レーションで再現することを検討中であり、技術的な可能性を
        九九式で探っていきます。

        ○ OS は Human の実績を踏まえつつ、独自に開発

        　Human68k の実績を踏まえつつ、使いにくいところは徹底的
        に改良した、独自の OS を標準添付させる予定です（詳細は未
        定です）。

        　また、オプションとなりますが、NetBSD を動作させるのに
        支障が出るようなことは極力避けます。

        ○必要な情報はすべて公開

        　OS や IOCS に該当する部分のコールだけでなく、必要と思
        われる部分はすべて公開します。OS のカーネル部分なども例
        外ではありません。これには、シャープやハドソンなどの権利
        に抵触しないよう、独自に開発したことを示す意味もあります。
        また、ROM 内ルーチンや回路図、FPGA の内部論理なども、可
        能な限り公表します。

        ○開発に必要なものはすべて標準添付

        　フリーウェア中には販売を禁止しているものもあり、どこま
        で実現可能か分かりませんが、少なくともフリーウェアを収め
        たCD-ROMを無料で添付するなど、開発に必要なものはすべて揃
        っているという状態を理想としていきます。
