About this program

This program is for preventing collecting of e-mail addresses published in your WWW pages from spammers or advertisers, so that to decrease spam mails. By replacing addresses in your WWW pages to entities of numeric character references converted by this program, these addresses are hardly collected by those programs utilized by spammers, without making any obstacles for humans reading your WWW pages.

Enter a text such as e-mail address in the upper field and click the Convert button. Then, the text is converted to numeric character references and shown in the lower field. The 'Verify' button demonstrates how converted text shown in a WWW page as a link(*4) in a new window(*3). You can view the source of the window and compare with the display.

This program is stand alone in this page. The copy of this page created on your local this does also work off line.

This program is based on the idea of the program created by SHIMADZU, Nobuhiko written in Visual Basic (I can not denote the name of the program here since its name is Japanese). I made this program since I want a similar functionality work on OS other than Windows. This program may not have the same specification as the original program, since I have not even tried it. Though I have no acquaintance with him, thanks to Mr. Shimadzu to give me the idea.

  1. Entities of hexadecimal numeric character references may not be supported by non-HTML4.0 complient WWW browsers such as Netscape Navigator 4.0, Netscape Communicator 4.7. If you want your WWW pages correctly visible by such old browsers, select the Output Format to Decimal.
  2. Some WWW browsers implements JavaScript partially or incorrectly. This program may not work with too old browsers such as Netscape Navigator 2.x. Or, it may not work with Opera 6 if the Remove spaces, tabs, and line breaks before conversion is checked.
  3. Some WWW browsers can prevent creating of new window from JavaScript by their settings. The Verify button may not work if you set it as so.
  4. You must specify URL scheme such as mailto:, http:// in the input to make the link displayed in the Verify window work.
