[00:00:00]Yet another generation of Web TV. [00:03:32]Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. [00:06:39]It has been 8 years... since WebTV came along. [00:09:63]The idea was to allow people to get on the Internet without the need for a computer... using the TV in the family room. [00:15:71]A year after its introduction, the company was purchased by Microsoft and eventually re-named MSN TV. [00:22:79]It has taken a while, but Microsoft is adding features that may make the concept appealing to more households. [00:28:76]MSN TV 2... can connect to the Net through a traditional modem... or now... through a high speed cable or DSL connection. [00:36:92]General Manager Sam Klepper... says the device is designed to be part of a home network... bringing digital music, photos and video stored on PCs... to the family room... [00:47:20]Our target customer has PCs, has Internet access. [00:51:20]So no longer do they have to be in their office, home office, to listen to the music that's on their PC or enjoy the photos or share the photos with others. [01:01:30]MSN TV 2 is being sold under the RCA brand name for about 200 dollars.... including a wireless keyboard and mouse... [01:08:92]but also requires a subscription fee of either 22 dollars a month for dial-up.... or 10 dollars a month for customers who bring their own high speed Internet access. [01:19:39]That makes it a pricier solution for sharing digital content around the home than devices being sold by Linksys, Gateway and others.
