[00:19:25]In this earthmate Talk, Dan and Ruriko talk about the movie Open Water. [00:23:50]Hi Ruriko! How are you doing? [00:25:37]Hey, Dan. I'm pretty busy these days. I've finally caught up on my work. [00:29:91]You know, my nephew and my brother went back to Japan a month ago and it took me this long to catch up! [00:35:72]I know the feeling. I guess you don't have time to see a movie, then, huh. [00:39:10]Yeah, right. I don't even have enough time to catch a few zzzs. [00:42:62]You know, now that I think about it, I don't think you'd like the move anyway. [00:46:04]What movie? [00:47:08]The other day I went to see the movie Open Water. It's about two scuba divers. [00:51:05]Oh, that sounds like fun. You scuba dive, right? [00:53:86]I do but the movie is not fun. [00:56:04]Now don't get me wrong, the movie itself is very good, but it's very scary. [01:00:67]Since I know that you don't like scary movies, I don't think you'd like this one. [01:04:53]That's nice of you to think about me! Why is the movie so scary? Do the people get eaten by sharks or something? [01:11:26]I can't tell you because I don't want to spoil the movie but let's just say something like that happens. [01:16:92]You see, the movie is about a husband and wife who go diving off a boat in the middle of the Ocean. [01:22:54]Uh-huh. [01:23:41]After they finish the dive, they come up to the surface and the boat is gone. [01:27:33]That's when the real movie starts. [01:29:49]The couple has to try to save themselves but the truth is, they don't have many options. [01:34:60]The entire movie is basically about two people sitting in the water. [01:38:17]That sounds like it was hard to make. [01:40:27]I mean, the two actors had to sit in the water all day when they filmed it, right? Didn't they get cold? [01:47:19]I think they did! They also had to film it near a bunch of small sharks since sharks have an important role in the film. [01:53:94]I think it was an awful filmmaking experience but the film itself is a real thriller. [01:58:74]Since you said it's scary, I'm not going to go see it but tell me how it ends, okay! [02:04:12]Well, I won't go that far because some of our listeners might want to see it. [02:08:05]But what I will tell you is that it is based on a true story. [02:11:61]I remember when I was in Japan in around 1998 there was a news story about an American couple on vacation in Australia. [02:18:94]They went diving on the Great Barrier Reef and when they came to the surface, their boat was gone! [02:24:10]They were left in the ocean and neither of them were ever found. [02:27:75]This movie I think may be based on that experience. [02:30:75]Really? When the movie starts, does it say it is based on a real incident? [02:35:50]It sure does! Of course, no one really knows what happened to the couple. [02:39:52]I mean, I'm sure they died but no one knows how. [02:42:71]The movie director and writer used their imaginations and made the movie. [02:46:44]Wow. That's really sad that it happened. What a terrible experience. [02:51:26]Their families must be so sad! [02:53:24]You know, I've done boat diving before. [02:55:70]It gives me food for thought to hear about the Open Waters story. [02:59:32]If I go diving again, I'll be thinking about it. [03:01:80]Yeah, Dan, please be careful. I don't want find another English Vitamin partner. [03:06:73]Ha ha Ruriko. Well, I'm going diving now. Bye! [03:09:48]Actually I'm very happy about it. [03:11:84]Blue eyes, blue eyes! Take care everyone! Bye! @TimeRatio=1
