Petaclone is an open source multi-protocol multi-platform messenger software which allows you to exchange messages on the network. Current main focus is LAN messenger protocols which are server-less and can recognize each members automatically. Protocols supported by Petaclone are IP Messenger, Petarou and Petarou X. Especially, IP Messenger is a de facto standard messenger of IT industry in Japan and Petaclone is the first compatible messenger which implements both file and folder transfer and message encryption. Petaclone can run on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
Petaclone runs on several OSs with Java Runtime Environment 1.4.2 or higher. Java 7 or higher is recommended. Please download from Java.com.

Expand archive and move the extracted folder to your convenient place such as "C:\Program Files\" in Windows.
Back up the data of old version. Preferences and messages are passed to new version when it is launched.
Note: If an old version is launched after using new version, new version specific message attributes and preferences will be lost.
Simply, delete folder. In Windows, Windows registry is not used by this software.
Preferences and saved messages locate at follows. In addition, these folders can be opend by selecting menu item of [Help] - [Open Configuration Folder] in the main window.
C:/Documents and Settings/(user name)/Application Data/petaclone/
"Application Data" is invisible folder.
C:/Users/(user name)/AppData/Roaming/petaclone/
"AppData" is invisible folder.
/Users/(user name)/Library/Preferences/petaclone/
This folder can be seen in Finder:
/(start up disk)/Users/(user name)/Library/Preferences/petaclone/
~/.petaclone/
Double click petaclone.exe.

Double click Petaclone.app.
Double click petaclone and click "Execute" button(Ubuntu).
Or type in command line:
java -jar petaclone.jar &

DO NOT redistribute alpha or beta version software without responsible and continuous update. These versions are developing, experimental and unstable.
